Love & Light

4 02 2009

Hi Joe!  Hi Karen, Lydia & Jack!

It’s been a really long time since we have seen each other and I just want you all to know that you have always been in my thoughts and in my heart.

I shot this image at a point in my life where I felt that much was out of my reach.  I am sharing it with you to remind you that even the impossible can be attained. Keep reaching.

Sending you love & light,

Anel

A note from Fred DeMaio’s family, sorry this took so long!

17 01 2009

Dear Joe,

I am so sorry you have been diagnosed with such a dis-ease, but there’s no doubt in my mind that you will overcome this temporary setback.  As you were first being diagnosed, (not knowing all the tests you had been going through) I called you to notify you of my brother Freddy’s passing.  Not only were you upset, but you were apologetic that you wouldn’t be able to fly to NY and be with me to show your support.  Of course the generous man that you are, you sent the most beautiful heart of flowers.  Everyone at the funeral home asked,  “Who sent that beautiful arrangement of  flowers?”  Joe, you are an “angel” in disguise, and you were certainly an angel for my brother.  Fred loved you and lit up every time he spoke about you.  As I continue to read through your blog, I can see all the people you have touched throughout your life.  As busy as you are, you even made time to visit Freddy in West Chester, PA while he was living with my family.  Of course I posted a picture of the two of you!  I want to thank you for your friendship and for ALWAYS being a phone call away for my brother.

As for myself, thank you for including me in your personal journey of healing.  The love and support of all your family and friends is monumental.  You will continue to shine on us all, and your positive spirit is most certainly a blessing for all of your family and friends.  May God continue to bless you and your beautiful family.  Please know the Guarinos will continue to keep you in their prayers.

  1. Love, prayers and friendship always,
    Ro, Rich, Ricky and Aly

Greetings Joey C.! Well Joe, this post started out with the idea that you might enjoy a couple of well-chosen photos. But the 3 cups of fresh coffee I’ve thrown down have interfered with my realizing sooner that I know a lot less about efficiently posting to WordPress than I figured I did when I got started. Before, with some trepidation, I click “publish” let me just explain that I’d wanted to include pix that I felt would in some way delight: New-born babes. Beasts of the field (or couch). Flowers. Trees (there’s a tale I want to share with you of that Doug-fir “Lazarus”). Clouds and sunsets. // But enough of words. They are merely signposts, and pale ones at that. Always remember in all places and at all times how much you are loved. Affectionately, dougie T [One of your first two roommates at Hofstra, 9/78 - 5/79]

Merry Xmas from Ellen

27 12 2008

Hi Joe, I thought I would send a funny picture for you to see.

Jayne’s husband Scott’s company throws a Halloween party every year with a theme, well this particular year you had to dress up as a political figure.

So Jayne went as Cher and Scott as Sonny Bono (the Senator?).

Martin went as Linda Tripp and his wife, Laura, went as Monica Lewinsky.

I know this will bring a smile to your face.

Merry Christmas,

Ellen

If Marty Nedboy could see you now…

26 12 2008

….he’d be so PROUD of you.  You are the son he never had and the many great laughs you shared together are still resonating across the universe.  He’d rush you right through the treatments and encourage you to get everything you’re “entitled” to for the speediest recovery.  (Because he’d never let cancer get in the way of eating a couple of dozen clams and seeing a Broadway show with you.)  Oh yeah, and as usual, you’d be buying.

Social support and the perception of geographical slant

25 12 2008

Our dearest Joe,

I came across this study that determined:

“The visual perception of geographical slant is influenced by physiological resources, such as physical fitness, age, and being physically refreshed. In two studies we tested whether a psychosocial resource, social support, can also affect the visual perception of slants. Participants accompanied by a friend estimated a hill to be less steep when compared to participants who were alone “

Well then, the journey away from cancer and hurling towards radiant health just gets less and less steep as friends from around the world join you, support you, embrace you, adore you, pray for you.

It is your life of kindness, decency, generosity and humor, encompassed in your giant, loving heart that will battle against a little annoying tumor that seems to have lost it’s way. I am sure you will be Polite but Firm in asking that it leave your body and never return.

Then you can get back to the serious business at hand…enjoying every day with the best people you know in the most beautiful natural surroundings.

Oh, and let’s not forget the pursuit of the perfect Kettle One straight up (very cold) martini with a twist.

I love you Joe..and I am in very good company.

Subject: Middle needed

Joe,

My brother Philip told me you were going to be laid up for 7 weeks.  That makes you well by February.  I need you to play Middie on my 45 and over Lacrosse team.  I am attaching a photo of our squad.

I am saving a place for you.

Get well soon.
